Aix-en-Provence is a magnificent city of art. One thinks of Cézanne, whose imprint is still felt in the streets of this Provencal city. Push open the door of his moving studio or visit the family home at Jas de Bouffan, and the shadow of the great man will be with you, as will that of Mont Sainte Victoire dominating the city in an unreal light. Aix-en-Provence is brimming with Baroque treasures, and every step you take in the old town makes you want to stop. Every fountain tells a secret, every square an invitation to visit a private mansion, a superb museum or a beautiful terrace to admire the surrounding beauty.
Our stay is an invitation to indulge the senses. For its 2024 edition, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence is imagining aesthetically pleasing performances. While the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra promises a festive evening, the great mezzo Elīna Garanča offers us an intimate recital. The same Apollonian elevation coupled with an exceptional sense of drama characterize the two fine productions of Monteverdi’s Return of Ulysses to his Homeland and Mozart’s La Clémence de Titus. Leading their respective ensembles, Leonardo Garcia Alarcón and Raphaël Pichon are among the greatest conductors of our time, in all repertoires.
