Baden-Baden is one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. Set in a lovely valley, surrounded by gentle hills, the town in the heart of the Black Forest enjoys a pleasant climate all year round. Its incredible casino, built by Friedrich Weinbrenner and the largest and oldest in Germany, exudes an irresistible charm. Actress Marlene Dietrich called it the most beautiful in the world! In autumn, there’s nothing better than taking advantage of the exceptional spa facilities that have been available in the city since ancient times. You can choose between the Friedrichsbad hot baths at different temperatures, in a sumptuous neo-classical building, or the Caracalla thermal baths, at the cutting edge of modernity. It’s the perfect way to recharge your batteries before the winter chill!

As well as culinary delights, wellbeing and nature, Baden-Baden is also a city where music reigns supreme. We’re offering you two exceptional concerts: one of them, a deeply moving performance of Schubert’s sublime Winter Journey by Thomas Hampson; the second, a luminous, romantic concert, will be an opportunity to (re)discover Jan Lisiecki, a prodigy pianist who has become a great star.

A luminous journey at the heart of the Black Forest

SATURDAY 1 NOVEMBER, 2025- BADEN-BADEN

THE WINTER JOURNEY, F. Schubert

Thomas Hampson : Baritone

Wolfram Rieger : Piano

– F. Schubert, The Winter Journey, Op. 89, lieder cycle based on poems by Wilhelm Müller

The Winter Journey is without doubt Franz Schubert’s most beautiful collection of songs. In 1827, Schubert was thirty years old but had only a year to live. Intense and dramatic, Winterreise is a work of despair whose emotions touch the most intimate part of the human being. Since recording it in 1997, Thomas Hampson has established himself as one of the great interpreters of this masterpiece. The most famous of American baritones has devoted his entire life to the Lied, and here he reveals the fruit of a lifetime’s work as an artist. Accompanied by pianist Wolfram Rieger, this promises to be a deeply moving evening.

SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER, 2025 - BADEN-BADEN

At 7pm, at the Festspielhaus :

WIENER SYMPHONIKER & JAN LISIECKI

Petr Popelka                        Conductor

Jan Lisiecki                          Piano

– W.A. Mozart, Symphony in C major KV 551, Jupiter

– E. Grieg, Piano Concerto in A minor

The proverb says that value does not wait for the number of years. At the age of fifteen, Jan Lisiecki released a disc on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. At almost 30, the Canadian pianist is now at the height of his powers. His considerable technical resources work wonders in the Romantic repertoire. Alongside the Wiener Symphoniker, Lisiecki performs Grieg’s luminous Concerto, a marvel of melodic abundance and limpid beauty. The Czech Petr Popelka, one of the great hopes of the new generation of conductors, will also conduct the final Symphony No. 41, known as the Jupiter Symphony, Mozart’s swan song of exceptional dramatic power.
