Berlin is constantly reinventing itself but jealously maintains its secrets. At the Neues Museum, the famous bust of Nefertiti, discovered in 1912, continues to exert its 1000 years old spell on anyone who meets its gaze. The Gemäldegalerie silently unfolds 5 centuries of European painting, from the Flemish primitives to the great Italian masters. Charlottenburg Palace, in its gilded salons, reveals all the baroque excess of the Prussian court. And when night falls on the wide avenues of Prenzlauer Berg, with its early 20th century facades barely touched by time, we understand that Berlin has not finished surprising us.
For our stay, the Berlin Staatsoper takes us into two radically different eras. In Paris during the Belle Époque, Puccini’s La Bohème is performed by the formidable soprano Elsa Dreisig. The next day we head to Babylon in the 6th century BC, where Verdi transports us in his famous Nabucco. Hailed by the international press, Emma Dante’s direction features 2 operas: Luca Salsi and Anna Netrebko. Unforgettable!
