Hamburg is the city of excellence. Brahms’s birthplace boasts an extraordinary quality of life. The Warehouse district (Speicherstadt) is particularly striking. With its canals and early 20th century buildings, it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. All music lovers now have eyes only for the sublime Elbphilharmonie concert hall, which overlooks the river mouth like the prow of a ship. It is precisely in this jewel of modern architecture (opened in 2017) that we invite you to enjoy concerts, and also to stay in the magnificent hotel nestled directly above the hall!

The program is particularly enticing, featuring a concert by Augustin Hadelich and Seong-Jin Cho, and a performance by Concertgebouw of Amsterdam under the direction of the conductor Klaus Mäkelä. We are pleased to offer you 2 exceptional establishments, each with a magnificent history: the home of the legendary Montblanc pens and the Steinway & Sons piano workshops, both originating from Hamburg. A stay that blends tradition and innovation.

Piano

Program:

– J. Brahms: Sonata for violin and piano in sol major, op. 78;

– L. Janáček: Sonata for violin and piano;

– A. Beach: Romance, op. 23;

– S. Prokofiev: Sonata for violin and piano in ré major, op. 94a.

In January 2017, Hamburg inaugurated the Elbphilharmonie, this magnificent 2150 seat hall located at the very tip of the city’s port. The lower part of the building is a former brick warehouse, while the upper part is an architectural marvel made of glass. This first evening of your stay invites you to a magnificent concert with two great stars of the classical world. On the violin, Augustin Hadelich established himself as the most vibrant American soloist of his generation, both for his infallible technique and for the purity of his intonation. His career demonstrates remarkable resilience: seriously injured in the face during a fire at the family farm, he stopped playing the violin before taking it up again to win the Indianapolis Violin Competition in 2006. At the piano, his partner is the Korean Seong Jin Cho, first prize winner in 2015 of the prestigious Chopin Competition. The talent of these duo promises us an intense Brahms Sonata, the rediscovery of a piece by Amy Beach and the energetic lyricism of the works of Janacek and Prokofiev.

At the end of the concert, aperitif at the Elbphilharmonie.

Appointment in the early afternoon for an exceptional experience in the Steinway and Sons workshops.

Heinrich Engelhardt Steinweg was born in 1797. Does his name ring a bell? This young German would revolutionize music, first by creating his first instruments in his country of origin, then by founding, during his exile to the United States, the company Steinway and Sons (with his Americanized name). It was in Hamburg (after Steinweg’s death) that the first factory was established and where these admirable concert instruments are still being built. Steinway pianos remain the most prestigious on our planet: the greatest soloists use them (Rubinstein, Argerich, Horowitz, Brendel, Lang Lang, etc.) and their manufacturing process has maintained its relentless perfection. We invite you to discover a unique manufacturing process in private. The visit will conclude with a private concert featuring one of the masterpieces from the collection by a great pianist.

For dinner, we continue the pursuit of excellence at an elegant and contemporary restaurant overlooking the park and the Alster, where you will enjoy a refined dining experience showcasing creative, seasonal cuisine.

You probably didn’t know this, but Montblanc pens are a company of German origin. In 1906, Claus Johannes Voss, Alfred Nehemias and August Eberstein designed a superior quality fountain pen with integrated inkwell in Hamburg. In 1910, the first Montblanc pen was launched, the legend of a brand that, more than a century later, retains all its prestige and reputation. We invite you to discover the magnificent Maison Montblanc, located at Hellgrundweg 98 in Hamburg. A fantastic immersive experience in the art of writing.
