Frédéric Chopin is one of history’s greatest composers. His Ballades embrace our souls, his Waltzes dazzle us and his Nocturnes enchant us. While his figure remains inseparable from the Paris of 1840, his music belongs to Poland, where he was born and spent the first twenty years of his life. For Chopin is everywhere in the capital Warsaw: just imagine: the city council has installed some fifteen musical benches in places directly linked to the composer’s life. Each bench features a few explanatory lines and a musical excerpt from one of Chopin’s works!

But the fervor surrounding the composer is never more ardent than during the Chopin Competition. Since 1927, this prestigious competition (held every five years) has revealed such legendary pianists as Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimerman and Yundi Li.

We invite you to attend the 19th edition of this competition during an exceptional stay. We’ll have the chance to attend two finals and a concert by the competition winners.

Private transfer to your hotel, the Warszawa, and lunch in one of the hotel’s restaurants.

After check-in, stroll along the Royal Way around Fryderyk Chopin: Holy Cross Church with Chopin’s heart, and the Visitandine Church where he was organist.

Chopin spent the first twenty years of his life in Warsaw. The buildings where he lived and gave concerts are best seen on the Royal Way. The Royal Way is a magnificent four-kilometer artery, punctuated by sumptuous churches and historic sites fundamental to Polish culture (Mieckiewicz, Copernicus).

In the sublime hall of the National Philharmonic, we will attend the first final of the Chopin Competition. Held every five years, this competition is one of the world’s most prestigious springboards for classical pianists. Dedicated to the work of romantic genius Frédéric Chopin, the competition reveals outstanding talent in an atmosphere that is both solemn and vibrant. Here, every note is scrutinized, every silence charged with emotion. A true poetic marathon for piano lovers.

After dinner, walk back to the hotel.

SUNDAY 19 OCTOBER – WARSAW

Breakfast at the hotel.

In the morning, departure from the hotel with your English-speaking guide for a tour of Warsaw’s Old Town, Cathedral and Royal Castle.

For those who have never visited Warsaw, the surprise will be all the more delightful: the Old Town is absolutely adorable. Rebuilt after the war, with its cobblestones and colorful facades, it forms an incredibly harmonious whole, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lunch in a restaurant serving refined Polish cuisine, then transfer to Łazienki Park.

The Park will be the starting point of our walk. Chopin was a regular visitor here, and the park remains one of Warsaw’s most popular spots. Originally, it was the magnificent hunting estate of the last king of Poland, Stanislas II. Today it boasts splendid gardens, a marvellous palace on an island, a delightful Roman-inspired amphitheatre and a famous monument to Chopin.

Return to Hotel Warszawa for a rest.

In the early evening, meet in the lobby of your hotel for a walk to the Philharmonic, where we’ll attend another final of the Chopin Competition.

After the concert, private transfer and dinner in a traditional restaurant offering an immersion in the elegance of the interwar period.

You can also visit the Collegium Maius, founded in the 14th century and home to the famous Nicolaus Copernicus. A must for history, architecture and science enthusiasts.

TUESDAY 21 OCTOBER – KRAKOW

Breakfast at the hotel.

In the morning, meet your English-speaking guide in the lobby of your hotel for your private transfer to Wawel Castle.

Unlike Warsaw, the city did not suffer from the Second World War and its exceptional heritage has survived intact. As the country’s former capital, it boasts some incredible medieval buildings, including the impressive Wawel Castle on the hill overlooking the old town. Built in the 13th century, the Market Square is the largest medieval square in Europe. Within it, Krakow Cathedral was the coronation place of almost all the kings and queens of Poland until 1734 and houses the tombs of numerous monarchs, bishops and national heroes.

Lunch in one of our fine restaurants below the castle, followed by a private transfer to the Jewish Quarter.

In the heart of Kazimierz, Krakow’s old Jewish quarter, the Remuh synagogue, founded in the 16th century, remains one of the few remaining places of worship. Just behind it, the Jewish cemetery dating from the same period houses ancient tombs, silent witnesses to a once thriving community. A place steeped in memory, where every stone whispers a fragment of history.

Enjoy a gourmet break with traditional pastries in a place steeped in soul and history, followed by a private transfer to the hotel for a moment’s rest.

In the late afternoon, departure for a private tour of the Wieliczka salt mine outside opening hours.

The Wieliczka salt mine is absolutely unique in the world. Excavated to a depth of several hundred metres, it consists of 245 kilometres of galleries. Everything about this journey to the centre of the earth is awe-inspiring: hidden staircases, crystal chambers, fabulous lakes and even the largest underground church in the world!

Dinner nearby after the tour.

Overnight at the H15 Palace Hotel.

WEDNESDAY 22 OCTOBER – KRAKOW/WARSAW

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.

In the morning, meet your English-speaking guide for a visit to the Czartoryski Museum, just a stone’s throw from your hotel.

The Czartoryski Museum, Krakow’s cultural jewel, houses one of Poland’s most prestigious art collections. From European masterpieces such as Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Lady with an Ermine and Rembrandt’s Landscape with the Good Samaritan to antiques and exotic curiosities, this museum tells the story of the elegance and passion of an aristocratic family who fell in love with art and history.

At the end of the visit, private transfer to Krakow Station for your return to Warsaw by train (first-class ticket, 2h30 journey time).
