Vienna represents a stay to happily surrender to the countless delights of the city. An ideal day in the Austrian capital begins with a breakfast at the Kutschkermarkt, renowned for its delicate dishes and stalls of local producers. The morning offers a huge range of cultural activities, the Siegmund Freud and the Leopold Museum or in search of Klimt’s turbulent Vienna at the Secession Palace. You cannot escape the traditional Wiener Schnitzel for lunch, even though other Austrian specialties are delicious, such as Tafelspitz (a leg of beef simmered on broth), which was Emperor Franz Joseph’s favourite dish. In the afternoon, you can visit the Sissi Museum, which includes the famous Empress’s clothing, jewelry and luxurious private carriage. And how can you resist one of the pastries in one of the breweries that have made the city famous?

In the evening, we invite you to see two magnificent masterpieces of the operatic repertoire. First one is the Traviata, directed by Simon Stone, which transforms Verdi’s heroine into a social media influencer. After that, Tosca in the Margarethe Wallmann’s immortal production. In the main roles, Vienna’s Opera presents a dream couple: Aleksandra Kurszak et our beloved Roberto Alagna. A truly delightful stay!

Giorgio Germont

La Traviata by Simon Stone is a true success. The action is set in the present day, and Violetta becomes a modern heroine, adapted to social media. The transposition to our time is more relevant here: Verdi’s heroine abandons herself to the vertigo of the party and digital screens, while noting the differences between social classes. On the rise, the young Italian soprano Federica Lombardi becomes one of the finest Traviata of her generation. Ludovic Tézier as Germont’s father demonstrates a masterclass in Verdi singing. Besides Xavier Anduaga as Alfredo, we can count on Francesco Ivan Ciampa’s direction, rich in italianità to enchant this wonderful Viennese evening.

Baron Scarpia

For the Viennese, this is the definitive production of Tosca. It is the Staatsoper’s oldest staging (its première dates back to 1958), but the show, imagined by Margarethe Wallmann, has lost nothing of its original magic. The passionate love story between Tosca and Cavaradossi (thwarted by the cruel Baron Scarpia) is brought to see in a series of striking images. Puccini’s breathtaking opera (a true thriller before the term existed) gains exceptional clarity and direction here, never more powerful than when performed by artists of the highest caliber. This is certainly the case in this performance with the couple (on stage and in the city) Aleksandra Kurzak as Tosca and Roberto Alagna as Cavaradossi. Under the affectionate direction of Francesco Ivan Ciampa, the duo (to which we must add the magnificent Scarpia of the Mongolian baritone Amartuvshin Enkhbat) will set the stage of the Vienna’s Opera!
