Vienna is a constant source of wonder. You will visit the Hofburg Palace, residence of the Habsburg dynasty, for nearly 7 centuries. With treasures, such as the Imperial Crown or the Unicorn horn, the Imperial Treasury is unforgettable. With its extraordinary, gilded décor, St. Charles Borromeo is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in the world. And how can we describe the beauty of the famous masterpieces by Klimt, including “The Kiss”, at the Belvedere Palace?

 

In the evening, within the sublime setting of the Vienna’s Opera, you will encounter an important masterpiece. Premiered in 1926, Turandot is one of the works of the Italian repertoire. Puccini’s work benefits from Claus Guth’s striking staging and Anna Netrebko’s extraordinary Turandot, a special vocal effect in herself. In the role of the Empress, one of the most demanding figures in the operatic repertoire, the Russian diva shines brightly!

Since its creation in 1926, Turandot has never ceased to fascinate opera lovers. Who is this ruthless princess, who will offer her hand to the one who solves her three riddles? A terrible Empress of China who does not hesitate to kill her unfortunate suitors! And who is Calaf, who falls under Turandot’s charm but will conquest the hearth of the cruel regent? Taking inspiration from Carlo Gozzi’s original play, Puccini achieved in orchestration prodigies and soaring arias such as the famous E lucevan le stelle. After a highly acclaimed Bohème, the German director Claus Guth imagines a Turandot set in dictatorial Asian regime, evoking both historical examples and echoes of contemporary South Korean television series. For this revival, Vienna’s Opera presents an exceptional distribution. Besides the excellent Calaf by Brian Jadge and Liù by Rosa Feola, we can count on the solidity of the maestro Henrik Nanasi (music director of the Komische Oper Berlin for several years). However, the main attraction of the evening will be the Turandot by Anna Netrebko. You will have the chance to hear the Russian soprano with her incomparable voice filling the entire Opera in her aria In questa reggia! Torrential, charismatic and phenomenal, Anna Netrebko deserves all that.
