In the late afternoon, you will attend a private tour of one of the finest palaces of Seville’s Renaissance, the Casa de Pilatos. Its name is believed by the people’s legend to be the accurate renewal of the Praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem. The aristocrat Fabrique Enríquez de Ribera traveled to the Holy Land, and continued his work back in the palace, which construction was managed by his father. Amid the numerous objects brought from Genes by Antonio Maria Aprile de Carona and by Pace Gazini, we come across the main door frame, and the main patio columns and fountains. The sumptuous, adorned roof from the years 1535-38 was made by the Polido brothers.

    DAY 2 - SEVILLE

    Breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning, you will meet your guide in your hotel lobby for a guided tour of Seville.

You will first discover the sumptuous Alcazar. Built by the King Don Pedro also known as « the Cruel » and partially renewed after several trials and tribulations by Catholic Kings and Charles V, the castle tends to be the most important Mudejar artwork in Spain. The palace indoors accommodates numerous rooms, all more glowing than the previous one: The Courtyard of the Maidens, The Hall of the Ambassadors and its dome from the 15th century, the Bedroom of the Moorish Kings. In the background, the wonder of the gardens.

The Alcazar still accommodates members of the Spanish Royal family when they visit Seville. It makes it the most ancient Royal Palace still in use in Europe, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Cathedral of Seville and the General Archive of the Indies, in 1987.

You will continue this morning with the visit to the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville. It embodies the second most important pinacotheca in the country, after the Prado Museum. This building was previously the Merced Calzada coven built by San Pedro Nolasco on the land transferred by Saint Ferdinand after the conquest of the city. The renovation work of the building was managed by Juan de Oviedo, from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century.

In 1835, after the Confiscation of Mendizabal, order was expelled, and the building became a museum four years later.

Free lunch during the flow of the tour.

Your tour will continue in the afternoon. You will explore the Hospital de la Caridad. Built during the 17th century, it is the headquarters of the brotherhood of the Holy Charity, a charitable religious foundation born at the end of the Middle Ages, which is still working here to help the most impoverished people at the end of their lives.

The hospital is famous for its Church, which is one of the artworks of the baroque Sevillana architecture, just like the numerous works of art it accommodates. Artists from Pedro Roldán, Murillo and Valdés Leal fabric gave major achievements, making this place a true baroque Art Museum. The hospital Church has been classified as a Historic Monument by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 1992, according to its stylistic traits and its historical value.

You will then visit the sumptuous Palace of the Countess of Lebrija, an authentic museum that accommodates objects from ancient Rome, such as vases, coins, pottery, jewels and most of all, stunning mosaics.

Doña Regla Manjón Mergelina, Countess of Lebrija and her heirs fought to maintain intact the palace Lebrija. The latter, in the center of Seville, behind a façade that seems plain and demure, offers a world of electric beauty that deserves admiration. The building dates from the 15th century and was renovated during the 16th century. The Sevillana-style façade has a certain majesty in its lines, balancing with its simplicity.

After this journey enriched with culture and knowledge, you will enjoy an aperitif on the rooftop of a building facing the Cathedrale, offering a magnificent panoramic view of Seville.

Back to your hotel. Dinner and evening at leisure.

    Night at your hotel.

    DAY 3 - SEVILLE

    Breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning, you will meet again with your guide in your hotel lobby for a guided tour of Seville.

You will begin your day with the visit to the Seville Cathedral, and especially its roofs (subject to good weather conditions), representing a great architectural interest. Its construction begun in the year 1401 on the ancient Almohad-styled Great Mosque Site, of which the Patio de los Naranjos and the minaret, the famous Giralda, are remaining. This splendid gothic temple is believed to be one of the greatest Christians monuments in the world. The greatness of its indoor dimension is the first thing that draws the attention of the visitor, crossing its doors for the first time.

Seville Cathedral accommodates 5 naves and 25 chapels hiding some of the most famous Spanish painters’ artworks.  The roofs and stained glass of the monument represent great interest, and visiting will allow you to understand how this monument was built while enjoying the extraordinary view the tour offers.

In the evening, you will attend a flamenco show in the Teatro del Flamenco, a prestigious institution in the entire country.

    Night at your hotel.

DAY 4 – SEVILLE, CORDOBA AND GRANADA

    Breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning, private transfer towards Cordoba (2-hours journey).

On your arrival in Cordoba, you will meet again with your guide that will accompany you on this half-day tour.

The origins of Cordoba get lost in time. Its location next to the river and the wealth of its cultivation in the surrounding countryside make it a perfect place for the first prehistoric occupations. However, it is only at the end of the bronze Age (9th and 8th centuries BC.) that the first colony, in a strict sense, settled.

With the arrival of the Phoenicians and the Greeks in the peninsula, the city reasserted itself as a major mining and commercial center thanks to the Guadalquivir. This fact benefits relations as well as artistic and commercial spreading, setting this city at the same rate as the main cities at the time.

During the Arabic domination (711-1263), Cordoba was the empire « Al-Andalus », cultural center and capital of the western caliphate. Islam, Judaism and Catholicism left their marks in this multicultural city.

You will begin your exploration of the city with the Cathedral-Mosque of Cordoba, an Islamic Mosque that became a Christian Cathedral in the 13th century. A Humanity World Heritage Site since 1984, it is the most important monument of the Islamic Western hemisphere and one of the most surprising of the world. Its history summarizes the complete evolution of the Umayyad style in Spain, just as gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles of the Christan construction.

Nowadays, the space occupied by the Cathedral-Mosque seems to have been dedicated to the worship of different divinities since Antiquity. Under the Visigoth domination, the Basilic San Vicente was built on this very site, on which the primitive mosque was built, after paying a part of the site. This rectangular basilic was shared between Christians and Muslims for a while. When the Muslim population increased, the basilic was entirely acquired by Abd al-Rahman I and destroyed for the final construction of the first Alhama Mosque, or first main Mosque of the city. Some construction elements of the Visigoth building are currently integrated in the first section of Abd al-Rahman I.

    Free lunch.

You will then continue your journey to Granada, where you will arrive in the late afternoon (2 hours and 15 minutes journey).

Packing off at your hotel, evening and dinner at leisure.

    Night at your hotel.

    DAY 5 – GRANADA

    Breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning, you will meet your guide in your hotel lobby for a morning tour of the City Center.

The first part of the day will be dedicated to the magnificent Alhambra palace and the Generalife gardens. Alhambra is the city, the fortress and the palace built by the Monarque of the Nasrid dynasty of Granada’s Kingdom. It is the city’s symbol, the most visited monument of Spain and a real artwork of the Muslim art in Europe.

Alhambra was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Its name comes from the color of its clay-made walls (Al-Hamra in Arabic) from the land, which explains this red color.

The palace is located on Sabika Hill, next to the river Darro. It mainly accommodates the Generalife gardens, the Nasrid and the Alcazaba palaces, Arabic-styled constructions. From the Christian-style we have the palace of Charles V and the Santa María Church, built on the ancient Mosque site. The Nasrid palaces are irregularly gathered, and the different rooms are linked with courts or galleries.

As for Generalife, it was previously a resting place for the Kings of Granada, and a cultivation farm. Its ornamental gardens and orchards date from the end of the 13th century. It accommodates 2 buildings united by the Acequia Patio, the most emblematic of those located in Alhambra. Located on the royal irrigation canal, this place is in charge of bringing water to all orchards and to Alhambra as a whole.

    Independent lunch.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Royal Chapel and the Granada Cathedral. The Royal Chapel accommodates the remains of the Catholic Kings: Don Fernando of Aragon and Doña Isabel of Castille (that used to rest in the coven of San Francisco of Alhambra), just like the remains of Doña Juana I, Don Felipe and the infant Miguel.

Under the graves is set a small crypt of enhanced austerity, in which the royal lead coffins remain, identified by the initials of each name on the lid.

The Cathedral is the first Renaissance Cathedral in Spain and the second biggest one in the country. Located in the center of Granada, it had to show the greatness of the city to the world. Of extraordinary dimensions, the Granada Cathedral accommodates an interesting completely round altar, an exclusive one in the history of architecture. It also accommodates the most notable artworks collection of Andalusian artist Alonso Cano.

The city is located at 750 meters altitude, giving its name to the Sierra. It is one of the oldest cities in Spain which the Celtics, Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs crossed, letting their marks on each monument of the region. One of the most impressive views is the “Tajo”, gorges of more than 100 meters splitting the ancient part with the recent one.  Above these gorges, a magnificent stone bridge was built during the 18th century. As the cradle of the greatest dynasties of “Toreros” such as the Romero or Ordoñez, the city accommodates the arenas built in the year 1784, believed to be the oldest in Spain. The Santa Maria la Mayor Church, previously the Gothic-and Renaissance styled Mosque, attracts with its huge artal, its Plateresque-styled choir, and its Hispanic-Muslim tower.
