    8pm, Teatro alla Scala:

    Tarmo Peltokoski | leonidas kavakos

    Tarmo Peltokoski: Musical Director

    Leonidas Kavakos: Violin

    Program :

    – J. Sibelius : Finland – Overture op. 26, Symphony No. 2 in D major op. 43

    – K. Szymanowski : Concerto No. 2 for violin in A minor op. 61

Tarmo Peltokoski is the new conducting sensation. Following in the footsteps of Klaus Mäkelä, the young Finnish conductor is establishing himself as the prodigy of the new generation of Finnish conductors. The greatest orchestras are clamoring for him (at just 23, he is already Music Director of the Capitole de Toulouse and Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Orchestra!), and during this concert, Tarmo Peltokoski will make his debut with the Scala Philharmonic Orchestra. During this concert, we are delighted to hear the admirable Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos in Szymanowski’s rare Violin Concerto No. 2 and, above all, Sibelius’s extraordinary Symphony No. 2. The final bars, in particular, are so bursting with life that the famous record producer Walter Legge said after hearing the symphony in 1935: “Of all the great works in the repertoire, none is better calculated to inflame an audience!”

Dinner in town after the show.

For ten years, audiences at La Scala in Milan have been waiting for a new production of Wagner’s Tetralogy. And the least we can say is that this long wait is amply rewarded here by the exceptional quality of the musicians assembled. In the first part, The Rhine Gold, Wagner is more interested in the world of the gods than the world of men. With episodes such as the Prelude and the entry into Walhalla, Das Rheingold is certainly the most evocative of the four Ring operas. We can count on the plastic beauty of David McVicar‘s staging, as well as on the conducting of the giant (in every sense of the word) Christian Thielemann at the helm of the Orchestra della Scala. As Wotan, Michael Volle is one of the great interpreters of the Wagnerian role.

    TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2024 – MILAN

This emblematic venue houses treasures from the Renaissance to the Baroque, offering a deep immersion in the evolution of Italian art through the centuries. A guided tour of this must-see museum promises an enriching experience, allowing visitors to admire masterpieces by renowned masters such as Raphael, Caravaggio and Titian.

Lunch on your own at the end of the tour.

Join us at 5:15pm for a talk by your very own Lama Tyan, who will share her passion and expertise with you in a presentation dedicated to this iconic work by Richard Strauss.

    At 7pm, Teatro alla Scala:

The Knight of the Rose is regularly staged at La Scala. There have been no fewer than three productions of Richard Strauss’s opera in the last ten years, but if there’s one staging that has won unanimous acclaim in Salzburg (where it was first performed in 2014) and then in Milan, it’s Harry Kupfer‘s. The sets take us back to 1911, the work’s premiere year. The sets take us back to 1911, the year of the work’s premiere. In Franz Josef’s Vienna, echoes of a film as mythical as Visconti’s Le Guépard (a great Milanese before eternity) are revealed in this portrait of an aristocracy in decline. In addition to the trio of Stoyanova, Lindsey and our national Sabine Devieilhe, all eyes are on the pit, of course, with the exceptional presence of Kirill Petrenko. The current Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic leaves his Berlin forces for a unique occasion to lead the Orchestra of La Scala. What an event!
