We will start our first day of sightseeing with a tour of New Delhi. The Indian capital is a city steeped in history. A land of contrasts, you will discover a unique atmosphere combining tradition and modernity. Wide roads lined with colonial buildings were built soon after the relocation of the imperial capital of British India in 1911.

We will observe the India Gate, the House of Parliament and the President’s Estate. We will then visit the Qutab Minar, a 73-meter tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in 1193 by Qutab-Ud-Din-Aiwa, founder of the Delhi Sultanate. In the morning, visit Gandhi Smriti: A sacred place that collects memories of the last months of Mahatma Gandhi’s life before his death on January 30, 1948.

In the early afternoon, visit the tomb of the Mughal emperor Humayun. Dating back to the 16th century, this tomb is one of the great masterpieces of Mughal architecture. Built entirely of red sandstone and marble, the tomb bears witness to considerable Persian influence. This monument introduced the great arches and double domes into Indian architecture. In 1993, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the early morning, sightseeing tour of Old Delhi.

We will observe the Chandni Chowk: one of the oldest markets in the area.

We will also go to the Red Fort. Built in 1648, this red sand stone fort is located along the Yamuna River and is surrounded by a wall about 2.4 km in circumference. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

This tour will be followed by a rickshaw ride through the streets of Old Delhi. We will pass through the Spice Market, a visit that will awaken your senses. Following these visits, we will take a break at Haveli Dharampura, time for a drink. In the late morning, visit the Jama Masjid, built by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan. It was built by Shah Jahan (Mughal emperor) in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz. Its architectural beauty is based on a rhythmic combination of solids and voids, concave and convex elements, shadows and lights, where arches and domes enhance its aesthetic aspect.

After the tour, return to your hotel for breakfast.

In the morning, visit the Agra Fort. Built by the great Mughal emperor Akbar in 1565, the fort is a masterpiece both in terms of design and construction. Inside the fort are a number of magnificent buildings such as the Diwan-i-Khas, Machchi Bhavan or “Fish Palace”, Diwan-i-Am, the place of reception of ambassadors as well as two mosques, the Moti Masjid or “Pearl Mosque” and the Nagina Masjid, built of white marble by Aurangzeb to serve as an oratory for his imprisoned father.

In the early morning, depart for Jaipur, via Fatehpur Sikri. (1h15 drive).

Fatehpur Sikri, built in the second half of the 16th century by Emperor Akbar (the City of Victory), was the capital of the Mughal Empire for 10 years. The complex of monuments and temples, all in a uniform architectural style, includes one of India’s largest mosques, the Jama Masjid, as well as the Panch Mahal, an extraordinary five-storey hypostyle structure in perfect asymmetry.

Continue on the road to Jaipur (4 hours drive).

Jaipur is surrounded on all sides by steep hills, crowned with forts. The city was built in the early 18th century and is surrounded by walls marked by battles. It is rightly nicknamed “the pink city of India”. It takes its name from the famous Maharana Sawai Jai Singh, who founded the city in 1728.

Unlike other cities in the region located in hilly terrain, Jaipur was located on the plain and built according to a grid plan interpreted in the light of Vedic architecture.

Jaipur is renowned for its artisans who specialize in the art of gemstones like garnet and ruby.

In the afternoon, visit a carpet and textile workshop. You’ll see a demonstration of block printing and carpet weaving.

You will then have free time to choose your fabrics and meet the workshop’s tailor, who is very renowned in Jaipur, to order you custom-made clothes which will then be delivered to you a few hours later to your hotel.

Return to the hotel.

In the early morning, visit the Amber Fort where you will access on the back of an elephant. The ancient capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs is located on a hill overlooking Lake Maotha, 11 km from Jaipur. This fort is an imposing witness to an intense and incredibly rich warrior era with a fascinating mix of Hindu and Muslim architecture.

We will then visit a jewelry factory in order to understand their manufacturing process. You will have a free time slot for your purchases.

After lunch, visit the City Palace. Located in the heart of the Old City, this is the former royal residence built with a mix of Rajasthani and Mughal inspirations. To this day, the City Palace is the main residence of some members of the royal family.

Among the works is the Diwan-i-Khas, with its enumerable pink arches, which was a place of private audiences of the Maharajas.
