Prodigious, bewitching, sublime Venice! There’s no shortage of adjectives to describe the incomparable charm of this Italian city. You can succumb to the pleasures of bellini and rossini, aperitivo, ice creams and the delights of Venetian cuisine, and why not take a ride on a gondola to discover the city in an unusual light?

Giacomo Casanova is, of course, one of the city’s most famous historical figures. The famous writer grew up in a house in the San Marco district and loved meeting his conquests on the Rialto Bridge. What’s more, he is the one and only man to have managed to escape from the Prison of the Lead weights located in the attic of the Doge’s Palace!

Our visit is dedicated to an equally fascinating character. The Teatro della Fenice presents Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the sulfurous seducer in the operatic repertoire, in Damiano Michieletto’s remarkable staging. Under the direction of American conductor Robert Treviño, Alex Esposito‘s Leporello and Zuzana Markova‘s Donna Anna are not the least assets of a vocal cast crowned by the extraordinary performance of Austrian baritone Markus Werba as Don Giovanni.

Who could resist Mozart’s voluptuous libertine Don Giovanni? Certainly not the audience at La Fenice when the character (originally inspired by Molière) is played by the incredible baritone Markus Werba! Hailed by the transalpine press, the staging by Italian director Damiano Michieletto accentuates the seductive power of Don Giovanni, who turns the heads of the other characters to vertigo. The Austrian singer’s brawny voice and undeniable sex appeal make him the ideal embodiment of the role. Visually splendid, the show also benefits from a monumental revolving set that encloses the characters in their complex passions.

In addition to Alex Esposito‘s always irresistible Leporello and Francesco Demuro‘s Don Ottavio, Zuzana Markova‘s moving Donna Anna will be a particular highlight. Currently Music Director at San Sebastian, Malmö and Turin, American conductor Roberto Treviño has a brilliant career both in concert and in opera houses around the world.

From April 20 to November 24, 2024

Venues : Giardinni and Arsenale

It’s the highlight of the global art season, a unique opportunity to take the pulse of our planet through powerful and original proposals. From April 20 to November 24, each country chooses an artist to occupy a pavilion dedicated to that country (scattered throughout the city, the pavilions are a marvellous promenade!). The 60th edition of the Biennale will be under the direction of Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa, current director of Sao Paulo’s Museum of Contemporary Art. As at every Biennale, artists are invited to reflect on a common theme, in this case foreigners, and in particular “artists who are themselves foreigners, immigrants, expatriates, diasporic, emigrants, exiles, refugees”. Representing France, Julien Creuzet has established himself as one of our country’s most influential artists, with his work reflecting on his Caribbean origins and creolization.
