As summer approaches, Munich is irresistible. On sunny days, the Bavarian city lives in the open air and is full of activities. You can stroll through the verdant English Garden that stretches along the Isar, or contemplate the striking Gallery of Beauties of Nymphenburg Castle. The collections of the Old Pinacoteca are extraordinary (Dürer, Rubens, El Greco…), but why not also have a refreshing beer at the Hofbräuhaus, one of the most famous breweries in the world?

On the first evening, we invite you to an exceptional performance of Tosca. For several years now, the Munich Opera has established itself as one of the beacons of opera today. Every new production is eagerly awaited around the world, and this Tosca directed by filmmaker Kornél Mundruczó is no exception. The vocal cast brings together the elite of international singing: Jonas Kaufmann and Ludovic Tézier. Grandiose! The performance of Die Fledermaus will also delight you with the participation of Diana Damrau, the famous German soprano.

The Bavarian State Opera is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. While Kirill Petrenko (now conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic) wrote many rich hours during the 2010s, the arrival of Serge Dorny as steward of the establishment has in no way diminished the influence of Munich opera. Replacing Luc Bondy’s staging, Kornél Mundruczó’s production of Tosca is a major event in musical life. In recent years, the Hungarian filmmaker has distinguished himself with remarkable shows, notably in Berlin and Geneva. In the title roles, the evening features a duo of singers that every opera house would dream of having: Jonas Kaufmann as Mario and Ludovic Tézier as Scarpia! A golden trio under the baton of the young Italian chef everyone is talking about: Andrea Battistoni.

Die Fledermaus is the third operetta by Viennese composer Johann Strauss, and the second of the name. It was inspired by a French play, Le Réveillon, created by the famous librettists Meilhac and Halévy at the Théâtre Royal in Paris in September 1872. The Viennese premiere of the operetta in 1874 had been a smashing success. Barrie Kosky, artistic director of the Komische Oper Berlin since 2012, offers a new look to “the operetta of all operettas” and focuses on its morbid side. The stage is in Vienna, the city of the golden age of operetta. You will find Georg Nigl and Diana Damrau who shine by their acting as much as by their singing in this hilarious work, swirling to the rhythms of waltzes.
