    Lisbon is an invitation to dream. Its exceptional geographical location, unique atmosphere and picturesque neighborhoods have made the Portuguese capital a charming destination. Nothing is more delightful than strolling through the Alfama district or admiring the city from rooftop terraces.

     

    In the Grand Auditorium of the Gulbenkian, two original concerts will enhance this legendary hall. First, maestro Hannu Lintu and pianist Alexander Malofeev will bring Tchaikovsky’s legendary Swan Lake to life. Then, the world’s most famous contemporary pianist, Yuja Wang, accompanied by the precise Mahler Chamber Orchestra, will pay poignant tribute to Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky and Dmitiri Shostakovich.

    Alexander Malofeev, winner of the coveted Tchaikovsky Prize for Young Musicians at the age of 13, was quickly dubbed the new “Russian genius”. Since 2014, this prediction has been confirmed in all the major sammes where Malofeev has performed. Ricardo Chailly was one of his first great admirers, praising the “depth and technical quality” of his pianistic discourse. Conducted by Hannu Lintu, Malofeev joins the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

    In her first year as Associate Artist of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the intense and virtuosic Chinese pianist Yuja Wang returns to the Gulbenkian to play and conduct two piano concertos by Ravel and Shostakovich. After the success of Mitsuko Uchida in 2023, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is once again led by an exceptional pianist. After winning over the critics with her interpretations of Ravel’s music, Wang once again gives herself over to one of her most beloved composers, to whom she lends her immense charisma.
