You will succumb to the Milanese art of living. Although it has never left the spotlight, the Lombard capital is currently undergoing extraordinary development. The Porta Nuova business district is an architectural dream with its spectacular buildings, such as the Bosco Verticale and its suspended forest. To discover the latest fashion and design creations, you’ll need to stroll and window shop along the avenues of the Quadrilatero d’Oro. And for a well-deserved break, why not embrace the Milanese tradition of aperitivo in the delightful Brera district?

In Milan, all roads lead to La Scala. The temple of opera presents two absolute masterpieces from the repertoire. On the one hand, the dramatic brilliance of Puccini’s Turandot, brought to life by Davide Livermore’s fabulous staging. Among the vocal cast, we will of course have eyes only for Roberto Alagna’s Calaf. On the other, the poignant poetry of Pelléas et Mélisande, carried by two exceptional artists: Maxime Pascal as musical director and Roméo Castellucci as stage director. The brilliant Italian playwright offers his version of Debussy’s symbolist masterpiece with an exceptional cast, notably featuring Simon Keenlyside as Golaud and Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Geneviève. Magnificent!

The world premiere of Giacomo Puccini’s final masterpiece took place at La Scala on 25 April 1926. Sadly, the composer had died two years earlier, without completing the score. On the evening of the premiere, the legendary conductor Arturo Toscanini laid down his baton on the last note composed by Puccini, at the death of Liù. This gesture went down in La Scala’s history and has been revived by Davide Livermore’s production for the centenary of the opera’s creation. The staging of this show is literally sumptuous, combining technological prowess and craftsmanship. Conductor Nicola Luisotti can be counted on to deploy the orchestral magic of the Chinese imperial court so dear to Puccini. Returning to La Scala, Anna Pirozzi is one of the most acclaimed Italian performers of the role of Turandot. In addition to Mariangela Sicilia as Liù, we are delighted to welcome back Roberto Alagna as Calaf, our national tenor being one of the most beloved idols of the Scaligian institution.

Based on Maurice Maeterlinck’s play, Pelléas et Mélisande is an opera that is truly one of a kind. Inventing a new way of singing in French, Debussy achieved wonders of orchestral beauty, creating a lyrical work of incomparable emotion. La Scala has staged legendary productions of Pelléas in the past: conductor Victor de Sabata conducted it in 1948 and 1952, Herbert von Karajan in 1962, and Georges Prêtre in 1973, 1977 and 2005. But the production that has left a lasting mark on the Milanese theatre is, of course, the one conceived by Antoine Vitez and conducted by Claudio Abbado. This new production follows in the footsteps of these giants, as the team brings together two exceptional talents with distinct personalities. Conducting the orchestra is the fiery Maxime Pascal, who has established himself as the great young French conductor of his generation. Directing, Roméo Castellucci has simply established himself as one of the geniuses of our time, with his performances brimming with intelligence and mystery. The encounter between the Italian playwright and Debussy’s opera promises historic sparks, especially as the cast features seasoned Pelléas performers such as Bernard Richter, Simon Keenlyside and Marie-Nicole Lemieux. In the role of Mélisande, Spain’s Sara Blanch promises to be a revelation.

Proceed independently to the airport and departure at leisure from Milan.
