Berlin takes us back through the centuries. The splendid Pergamonmuseum takes us back to the time of mythical Babylon, with its monumental Ishtar Gate. At the Neues Museum, we can pay our respects to the pharaoh Nefertiti, whose famous bust, discovered in 1912, has lost none of its bewitching power. The Baroque masterpiece is, of course, the Schloss Sans Souci in Potsdam, designed for Frederick II the Great. The pleasant Prenzlauer Berg district is a magnificent reminder of Prussia in 1900, and the monumental Karl-Marx Allée is an incredible vestige of Communist architecture. The futuristic Potsdamer Platz and the alternative districts of Kreuzberg and Neukölln will delight lovers of modernity.
We invite you to an exceptional evening of opera. On the marvellous Avenue Unter den Linden, the Staatsoper presents A Masked Ball, a masterpiece of Verdi’s first maturity. The Berlin institution has entrusted the production of the opera to the remarkable Spanish director Rafael Villalobos. Conducted by Enrique Mazzola, the cast features two great Verdians in the male roles: Charles Castronovo and Ludovic Tézier. Incontestable opera star, the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, creates a sensation by interpreting the role of Amelia for the first time.
