It is the most widely watched classical music event on the planet. Each year, tens of millions of viewers tune in to admire the New Year’s Concert in Vienna. For this stay, we invite you to step to the other side of the screen and experience this magnificent bouquet of waltzes and polkas live in the legendary Musikverein hall.
Vienna is magical during the holiday season. On New Year’s Eve, the entire Austrian capital transforms into one vast ballroom. From midday onward, the aptly named Silvesterpfad (New Year’s Eve Trail) winds a marvellous path through the city centre. Unforgettable sights await: the Prater illuminated with lights, the grand Christmas markets, the enchanting ice rink in front of City Hall, Kärntner Strasse glittering with a thousand lights, and, of course, the city’s splendid museums – among the most beautiful in the world.
In addition to the eagerly awaited New Year’s concert, you will enjoy a performance by the Spanish Riding School. Located in the monumental Hofburg (seat of imperial power from 1279 to 1918), this venerable institution, founded in 1735, is one of the world’s finest equestrian schools. Dressed in tailcoats and bicorne hats, riders present a dazzling gala performance. Their partners are Lipizzaner stallions – named after the former imperial stud farm in Slovenia – whose grace, discipline, and beauty will leave you utterly amazed.
