You will succumb to Verona’s charms. All too often overshadowed by its Venetian rival, this medieval city dazzles with its unique charm. With its golden hues and pink marble, Verona boasts an exceptional architectural heritage. Of course, we’ll visit the Casa di Giulietta and its famous balcony, said to have inspired the very first tale of Shakespeare’s lovers. But the city holds other treasures, such as the Lamberti Tower, Castel San Pietro and Piazza dei Signori, where a statue of Dante stands. As if in a dream, we’ll stroll along the banks of the Adige to cross the Ponte Pietra.

As night falls, Verona reveals another facet of its magic, inviting you to experience an unforgettable moment at the Arena Festival: in the magnificent setting of the Roman amphitheatre, operas and shows come to life under the stars, offering a unique experience where music, history and emotion come together.

For the 2026 edition, two masterpieces by Giuseppe Verdi unfold here in outstanding casts. La Traviata, led by the sensitivity of Rosa Feola and the noble presence of Luca Salsi, opens the stay with the full force of its intimate drama. The following evening, Aida assumes a spectacular dimension in Franco Zeffirelli’s iconic production, brought to life by Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna and Clémentine Margaine. Two complementary visions of Verdi’s genius, poised between emotional intensity and monumental fresco, united within the singular setting of the Arena di Verona.

Il Marchese d’Obigny

Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, the world’s most beloved and frequently performed opera, will open the 103rd Arena opera Festival. New emotions, the same magic in a new production by Michele Olcese. Inspired by La Dame aux camélias by Alexandre Dumas junior, the work explores with rare intensity the themes of love, sacrifice and social judgement. In the role of Violetta, Rosa Feola reveals a voice of remarkable purity, capable of embracing both the virtuoso brilliance of the first act and the most introspective nuances of the final scenes. Opposite her, Luca Salsi brings a commanding expressive authority to Giorgio Germont, while Michele Spotti’s conducting underscores the full dramatic richness of the score, balancing worldly brilliance with intimate tragedy. Within the vastness of the Arena, this new production creates a compelling dialogue between monumental scale and psychological refinement.

High Priestess

Premiered in 1871, Aida combines historical spectacle with intimate drama, opposing duty and passion within an idealised Egypt. Franco Zeffirelli’s production, now emblematic of the Arena, impresses through the scale of its tableaux, the richness of its costumes and the precision of its mass scenes. Within this spectacular framework, Aleksandra Kurzak portrays an Aida both radiant and inward, while Roberto Alagna lends Radamès a nuanced heroism, balancing vocal brilliance with human vulnerability. Clémentine Margaine, as Amneris, commands the stage with striking dramatic presence, supported by a finely controlled vocal power. Under Francesco Ommassini’s direction, the score unfolds in all its breadth, alternating triumphant scenes with moments of introspection in a continuous arc of intensity.
