The Sicilian capital captivates through its contrasts. Between Arab heritage, Norman influences and Baroque splendours, Palermo unfolds as an open-air museum. Palazzo Butera, a Baroque jewel perched above the sea, offers a first glimpse into the city’s architectural richness. The walk continues to Piazza Pretoria, where a sixteenth-century fountain stands at the heart of a setting of palaces and historic churches. Just steps away, La Martorana reveals its shimmering Byzantine mosaics, a striking testament to Palermo’s Eastern past.

The Norman Palace and its Palatine Chapel affirm the grandeur of the successive civilisations: antique columns, Romanesque vaults and Byzantine mosaics intertwine in a décor of rare visual intensity. For a more popular and livelier interlude, the Teatro dei Pupi Kemonia brings to life the ancestral art of Sicilian puppetry, guardians of local legends.

Then comes the highlight of the stay: the Teatro Massimo illuminates for Verdi’s Rigoletto. The orchestra breathes life into this profoundly moving tragedy, carried by an outstanding cast, notably Ludovic Tézier, and a staging that captivates from the very first notes. Between drama, passion and vengeance, Rigoletto offers an unforgettable operatic evening.

Breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning, your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel for a walking exploration of the city.

Your itinerary begins with a visit to the celebrated Norman Palace, located approximately a fifteen-minute walk away. This emblematic site reflects the many civilisations that have succeeded one another here: Punic fortress, Roman stronghold, residence of the Arab emirs, and later the palace of the Norman sovereigns in the twelfth century. You will also discover the Palatine Chapel, a jewel of Arab-Norman art, where Romanesque vaults, ancient columns, an Arabic-inspired ceiling and sumptuous Byzantine mosaics blend in perfect harmony.

You will then enjoy a private visit of Franco Cuticchio’s Puppet Theatre (Teatro dei Pupi Kemonia).

A lunch at leisure is scheduled during the visits.

Your walk continues to Piazza Pretoria, an elegant square surrounded by churches and palaces, whose centrepiece is a remarkable sixteenth-century fountain.

You will then discover La Martorana, a twelfth-century church renowned for its Byzantine mosaics, among the oldest and most refined in Sicily.

The itinerary continues to the Oratorio di San Lorenzo, where a reproduction of The Nativity with Saint Francis and Saint Lawrence is now displayed. The original Caravaggio painting, stolen during the night of 17 to 18 October 1969 under still unexplained circumstances, continues to fuel many speculations.

Finally, your route concludes at Palazzo Butera, a magnificent eighteenth-century Baroque residence whose exhibition rooms offer superb views over the sea.

Return to your hotel to refresh before your evening event.

Rigoletto, a masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi, immerses the audience in an intense and profoundly moving lyrical drama. The story unfolds in Mantua in the sixteenth century and follows the court jester Rigoletto, at once cynical and deeply devoted to his daughter Gilda. Beneath his wit and sharp irony lies a loving father, prepared to do anything to protect the one he cherishes. When Gilda falls under the spell of the libertine Duke of Mantua, Rigoletto’s desire for vengeance is set in motion. Yet tragedy unfolds inexorably: what was intended as a plan to punish the seducer turns against him, and Rigoletto discovers, in horror, the sacrifice of his own daughter.  Through this plot, where love, betrayal and vengeance intertwine, Verdi explores the duality between appearance and reality, offering an opera of rare dramatic power. Iconic arias such as La donna è mobile continue to captivate audiences, making Rigoletto an essential work of the operatic repertoire.
