Naples is full of divine surprises. Did you know, for example, that there is a fascinating underground city beneath the city? Here you’ll find squares and entire streets laid out by the Greeks and Romans, as well as a theater and an aqueduct. The catacombs are another emblematic must-see, as are the unexpected subway stations, some of the most beautiful in Europe. A few kilometers from Naples, Herculaneum is a sublime ancient city, left in an exceptional state of preservation. For archaeology enthusiasts, the National Museum’s collections of treasures from Herculaneum and Pompeii are a must.
In the evening, we invite you to one of Verdi’s finest operas. Love and political conflict are on the program of Bal Masqué, staged here by Massimo Gasparon. In addition to Piero Pretti, the cast features two of the most legendary singers of our time: Anna Netrebko and Ludovic Tézier. The great conductor Pinchas Steinberg directs this dream performance.
